Belgium urgently needs highly educated workers, study shows

21:29 16/08/2017

Belgium needs to attract more highly educated workers from abroad, writes VRT Nieuws. In the coming years, Belgium needs more than 1 million new highly educated people to join its workforce, and will need to count on foreigners to meet this demand, according to an international study commissioned by HR service provider Randstad.

In Belgium, the number of low-skilled jobs is rapidly decreasing, while the number of jobs for highly educated people is on the rise. In the coming years (2013-2025), therefore, 1.1 million new highly skilled workers are required, predict the researchers. With the influx of new technological evolutions comes an increasing demand for highly educated profiles, they say.

In addition to the ICT sector, new highly educated workers will also be needed in the health sector and government, says Jan Denys of Randstad.
