Sending money abroad

Question

I need to pay a travel agency that is in India. They don't want me to pay by credit card but by bank transfer. However, bank transfer will cost a minimum of €50 for the €1800 I have to pay.
Does anyone know of a cheaper way to transfer the money to New Delhi? I called Western Union but they are not cheaper.
Thanks in advance.

AJ

There are low-cost money transfer services like "TransferWise" and "World First". You have to sign up first.

Thanks AJ. Is transferwise a secure mode of payment? Have you used it?

€50 on a payment of €1800 is a charge of 2.7%
You would be hard pressed to find a better deal.

On another note, I assume that you know and trust the travel agent in India? " They don't want me to pay by credit card" is one of the classic signs of a scam.

Here is just one article - I could send you a lot more if you're interested:

Thanks Anon.
Yes, it does sound suspicious - cannot pay by credit card. However, fortunately, I've used this agency before and, they have just informed me that I can pay on arrival. Phew!
Anyway, €50 is a hefty amount in the age of the internet of things!

Transferwise is very good. Excellent exchange rates and very efficient. A reputable company.
