Tattoos, tipples, talks and comic turns, discover what’s on this coming week

Fans of body art can seek inspiration at the Brussels Tattoo Convention held in Tour & Taxis this weekend. The sixth edition welcomes 220 of the top tattoo artists in the world, hailing from the UK, US, Canada, France, Luxembourg, Russia and Germany, among other countries. There’s also live and colourful entertainment with concerts, fashion parades, burlesque festival, competitions and more.

If your preferred tipple is a Belgian brew, Brasserie Cantillon is opening its doors for a public brewing session on Saturday from 6.30 to 17.00. One of the few breweries still active in the capital, it will take visitors through the various stages of producing traditional Lambic and Gueuze. Guided tours every 30 minutes at the Anderlecht site in Rue Gheude. Early birds will be rewarded with coffee and croissants until 8.30. Entrance €7.

Fledgling entrepreneurs in need of honing their selling techniques, should head to AngelSessionBXL: Innovative Marketing, a free series of talks in English at Muntpunt on 18 November at 18.00. Speakers, including Clo Willaerts, Wim Vermeulen, Hans Similon and Bert Marievoet, discuss the importance of entrepreneurship and how to market a bright idea to the world. The session will be followed by drinks and opportunities to pitch ideas or projects to potential investors.

For budding oenologists, wine master Fiona Morrison will be challenging your palate in a blind wine tasting at Full Circle on 19 November at 19.00. The Scottish wine producer, consultant and writer (she’s also a former Bulletin columnist) believes this is the best way to improve your appreciation of various grape varieties. With 30 years of experience, Morrison is one of one of Belgium’s three certified Masters of Wine. The professional club meets twice a month for various talks, discussions and events. It will announce the venue shortly before event. Tickets €30 members, €45 non-members.

If you’re curious to discover Swedish comedy, tickets are still selling for Magnus Betnér on 17 November at The Black Sheep in Flagey. The popular comedian is already sold out for a show in his native language the previous night. Tickets from English Comedy Brussels. Betnér is supported by fellow Swede and UK comedy circuit regular, Tobias Persson, comedian and radio host Fritte Fritzson and Sweden-based Canadian Joe Eagan.

Outside Brussels

Antica Namur is popular with dealers, collectors and amateurs alike, attracting around 28,000 visitors every year. For its 39th edition from 14 to 22 November, the theme is the animal. Among the 155 Belgian and foreign antique dealers, you will find animals in classical, stylistic and even amusing forms, whether it be in sculpture, paintings or objects. For those who want to learn more about the antique world, there are also four conferences during the fair. At Namur Expo.
