Bicycling more popular in Flanders than in Wallonia

09:43 18/09/2014

The inhabitants of Flanders are five times more likely to take to their bike than the residents of Wallonia and four times more likely to cycle than the residents of Brussels, a study by SPF Mobilité/FOD Mobiliteit has found. Twenty percent of Flanders’ residents get on their bicycle at least five times a week, against 4% in Wallonia and 5% in Brussels.

The inhabitants of the south of the country come out top, however, when it comes to taking out their bike once to several times a year: 20%, against 16% in Brussels and in Flanders.

Brussels residents come out top for having never used their bicycle (59%), just ahead of Wallonia (58%) and far behind Flanders (24%).
