STIB cannot extend its routes into Flanders

Flemish public transport company De Lijn wants to introduce four tram routes into Brussels, but some STIB directors are vetoing the plan because the draft agreement does not allow the Brussels company, in return, to extend some of its lines into Flemish Brabant, La Capitale reports today. Under De Lijn’s ‘Brabantnet’ plan, four tram routes would either pass through or terminate in Brussels. STIB’s board of directors was due to ratify an agreement which would see the four De Lijn lines become operational in 2025. But several STIB directors believe the agreement to be neither fair nor beneficial to the Brussels company, because of its lack of reciprocity.
