Belgian teenager identified as Hannah Smith cyberbully

12:37 12/08/2013

A 16-year-old boy from Tongeren, Limburg province has been identified as one of the trolls who sent taunts to Hannah Smith the day before she died, writes the Daily Mail’s Nick Fagge. Hannah’s father, David Smith, said he had seen evidence the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was targeting his daughter. But he maintained that identifying him would not protect other children, adding that only regulating the internet would be effective. ‘Catching this boy won’t make any difference, it won’t make the internet safer,’ he said. ‘The only way is to bring in controls.’ Hannah Smith, 14, hanged herself in her bedroom ten days ago after being targeted by trolls on anonymous networking site Ask.fm. The 16-year old Belgian posted his fears on mobile messaging app Kik, writing “This is so srs [serious] i think i might go to jail” (sic), admitting to sending Hannah “a load of abuse” the day before she dies, adding he “didn't think it would go this far”. He is being tracked by the police.

He should go to jail - this is murder by proxy! I feel very sorry for her family and all victims of these so-called trolls.
