Parks and green spaces closed in Brussels due to Storm Goretti

10:40 09/01/2026

The Brussels-Capital Region has closed parks and green spaces, including the Sonian Forest, until Friday afternoon because of strong winds.

With gusts of wind forecast to reach between 70 and 90 km/h, all green spaces managed by Brussels Environment are off limits to the public, the regional agency has announced.

It also advises people to avoid driving near trees and wooded areas.

“The end of the access restriction is scheduled for Friday 9 January in the afternoon,” says Brussels Environment.

“Inspection, cleaning and securing will take place at the end of the alert. When this has been done, green spaces will once again be open to the public,” it added.
