Speed cameras in Brussels capture increase in offences

09:02 11/09/2025

The number of speeding offences recorded in Brussels rose to 540,000 in 2024, a 15% over the year before, new figures have revealed.

The increase in Brussels is slightly lower than in Wallonia (18%), but higher than in Flanders (8.2%), Bruzz reports.

The number of fines doubled in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Jette, Ganshoren, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Koekelberg, Uccle, Watermael-Boitsfort and Auderghem.

The number of "minor" offences in particular saw a sharp increase. Across the Brussels region, more than 310,000 fines were issued for offences of driving up to 10kph over the speed limit, an increase of 70%.

The number of offences of 40kph or more over the speed limit fell to 3,900.

Police see several explanations for the increase, including more speed control devices and the fact that more police zones are joining the federal police's regional processing centres for the more efficient processing of their speeding offences.

The street where the most speeding drivers were caught was Avenue de Tervuren, where just over 30,000 speeding offences were recorded in 2024.

Boulevard de Nieuport, alongside the canal, came in second place with 24,500 fines and Avenue Charles-Quint rounded out the top three with 21,500 fines.

The Porte de Hal tunnel in Brussels-City saw 8,000 tickets issued. In the Marlow police zone, one speed camera on Rue de Stalle in Uccle captured 16,300 offences. In Auderghem, almost 22,000 drivers were fined for speeding on the E411 towards Namur.

In the Brussels-West zone, Molenbeek saw the highest number of offences with 11,800 fines on Chaussée de Ninove. In Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, 10,000 offences were recorded on the Chaussée de Gand, with another 10,000 on the Avenue Emile Bossaert in Koekelberg.

In Jette, Avenue Jacques Sermon had the most offences with 5,700.

In the Midi police zone, drivers were mainly caught speeding on the inner ring and on the Brussels ring in Forest. On Avenue du Parc in Saint-Gilles, drivers were caught speeding more than 8,400 times.

In Etterbeek, Avenue des Nerviens, running alongside Cinquantenaire park, was the most popular street for speeding with 15,385 offences.

Drivers in Schaerbeek were most often fined on the E40 heading into Brussels and in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Rue Royale accounted for more than 4,700 fines.
