Owners of undeclared solar panels will face penalties

13:40 01/05/2025

Undeclared solar panels, charging stations or storage batteries in the Belgian capital may be subject to penalties as of 1 May.

Brussels residents are legally required to declare these types of installations within a maximum of 30 days.

The penalties would be levied by Sibelga, the Brussels electricity and natural gas distribution network operator.

“The fine could be about €60,” spokesperson Serena Galeone said.

The regulation aims to prevent grid congestion, UPS failures and damage to infrastructure.

“It’s important for us to know what is entering our network and to make investments where necessary to strengthen it,” Galeone added.

Sibelga said the increase in solar panels in Brussels presents a real challenge for network management, with almost 25,000 installations already registered in the region.
