Nine out of 10 Belgian drivers use GPS, study shows

17:59 21/08/2016

About 88% of the motorists in Belgium use GPS technology to help them navigate, compared to just 75% a year ago, writes Bruzz based on the results of a survey of 2,000 Belgians by mobility club VAB.

The study also reveals that less than half (49%) of the GPS devices are regularly updated, which leaves the majority of drivers at risk of receiving incorrect information.

Most drivers use a mobile system, according to the survey, while 34% use a built-in system. The increase in the use of built-in systems is a positive development in terms of safety, according to VAB, “because fixed systems ensure continuous reception, are better integrated into the dashboard and can not come loose or fall on the floor of the vehicle.”

VAB welcomes the increased use of GPS guidance, as it allows “the driver's full attention to go to the traffic.” The mobility club advises users to update their devices regularly, especially those that are five years or older.
