New Zealanders mark Anzac Day in Belgium

11:25 26/04/2013

Hundreds of New Zealanders marked Anzac Day on the Western Front at a series of services in Flanders, reports TVNZ. Kiwis attended services in Messines and Zonnebeke’s Polygon Wood to mark the anniversary. The number of New Zealanders and Australians attending such commemorations is expected to swell next year as people seek alternative spots to Gallipoli to mark the war’s centenary. “2017 will be the very big year for us, but there will be a pattern of commemorations across 2014 to 2018 to mark the centenary of World War One,” said Paul Wilson, New Zealand's ambassador to Belgium. New Zealand and Australia are yet to confirm how and when a ballot for 10,000 places at Anzac Cove in 2015 will take place.
