New ‘video on demand’ platform for Flemish films

10:18 18/09/2013

The Union of Flemish Film Producers (VFPB) and the website UniversCine.be have, in collaboration with the Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (VAF) and Flanders Doc, have launched a new diffusion platform for Flemish films going back as far as 1945, making them available by paying download or online streaming, writes Cineuropa’s Aurore Engelen. Digital platforms for the rental of video-on-demand (VoD) films are trendy in Belgium, which is one of the European countries offering the most VoD services, but until now there was no such thing as a centralised online Flemish film library. The new platform will give access to big commercial successes such as The Alzheimer Case (pictured)  and Bullhead but also art-house films such as the recent Kid and The Fifth Season, as well as films not released in cinemas, such as the highly praised documentary Grande Hotel. The platform is hosted on the website www.vlaamsefilm.be, and run by UniversCine, the reference VoD site in Belgium.
