New Saharan dust storm heading to Belgium

18:46 12/04/2022

Warmer weather is forecast in Belgium over the next few days along with a return of orange sand particles originating from North Africa.

With a risk of rain on Wednesday, there could be Saharan dust falling amid the downpours.

But the weather phenomenon is likely to be less dramatic than the one in March, say meteorologists.

The previous dust cloud last month saw skies over Belgium turn a hazy orange. It forced motorists to clean their cars after they were covered in a thick orange film.

Nevertheless, car owners are advised to keep their vehicles under cover if possible as the sand particles can scratch paintwork and window screens.

The low pressure area west of Europe is also bringing a welcome warm air flow for the long Easter weekend with maximum temperatures of 20°C forecast.
