New remote control car key
I was amazed to be quoted this kind of price for a new key for my car.
However, when I went to get the job done I found that the remote control element was specific to my car (it has to be linked to the VIN of the car) and the spare key has to be 'taught' to recognise the new set up - if not, the spare will not start the car even though there is no remote control element on the spare key.
This means that, in addition to getting the key, there is also a labour charge for the mechanic who 'teaches' the spare!
You can get a new key cut in the same way as any key but the remote control element can only be supplied by a main dealer of the specific make of car.
I don't know of anywhere that will do this other that the franchised dealer, hence the price. It's a total rip-off because they can.
€200 isn't a bad price for a new electronic key.

Hi if you buy a cheap key it might not work, these are really specific times and yes they cost a lot even if a manufacture loses or breaks one the cost is high because it's a unique key and has to have the correct security activated and in paired to only your car
