New €5 note refused in many places

The new €5 banknote, the first of a new series released last Thursday, is being refused in many places, the Sudpresse newspapers report today. The note is being rejected by vending machines, automated car parks and some ATMs where cash deposits are usually possible. Some shops are also refusing the new notes for fear of ending up with counterfeit money: in fact, the new notes are much harder to copy and have been put in circulation to prevent counterfeiting. Counterfeit money detectors have not yet been adapted and also flag the new banknotes as fakes.
