An estimated 184,700 people used the services of public transport company De Lijn while celebrating New Year’s Eve, 8% more than the previous year, reports Knack based on figures from De Lijn. No major incidents were reported.

About 400 De Lijn employees worked on the holiday, providing extra services throughout the night on a total of 205 buses and trams running on 127 so-called party routes across Brussels and Flanders. Passengers paid €3 for unlimited use throughout the day. The highest number of passengers was reported in the centre of Antwerp, followed by routes to and from Brussels and Leuven.

On the same evening in 2013, De Lijn transported around 171,000 passengers. It is the 27th year in a row that the company runs extra buses and trams on December 31.
