Nationwide strike on 24 June to disrupt public transport
Several public transport providers in Belgium are warning passengers to expect disruption and delays on Friday due to the socialist trade union FGTB-ABVV's planned national strike. The Brussels public transport company STIB expects 'serious disruption' to its services, while railway company SNCB says some traffic disruption is possible.
It is difficult to predict the extent to which the strike will affect public transport users, as no other unions are taking part in Friday's action. However, Flemish transport company De Lijn expects it to have a serious impact on bus and tram schedules. The company will not have more details until Friday morning, and therefore advises travellers to consult the website.
STIB expects 'considerable disturbance' on its bus, tram and metro network, as directors and employees will be supporting the strike. STIB will make every effort to operate as far as possible on the main lines, but advises travellers to look for alternatives, or check the website and social media for information in real time.
Rail traffic will be greatly affected by the strike, from as early as Thursday evening until the end of the schedule on Friday, 24 June, SNCB says. Travellers are advised to seek out other modes of transport during that period. More information is available via the website, the Contact Center (02/528.28.28), the free app and social media.
