Nationality Interview

Question

I have applied for Belgian nationality, and have to go for some sort of interview in October. Can anyone who has experienced such an interview give me some idea of the process. I live in Flanders and can imagine it will entail some sort of language test, verbal or written, as well. Thanks in advance!

Yes, it will be mainly to test your language skills to check whether you are able to communicate or not in one of the National Language (which seems Dutch for you as you stay in FLanders).

Did you provide some certificate for the language skills to prove that you have atleast A2 level?

@ABHI: No A2 level cert. How do I get one and from whom? Thanks for your input!

I forgot to mention that I have assumed that you have applied the citizenship under the new law which is applicable from 1 Jan. 2013 under which the person applying for citizenship must know one of the national language.

So when I went to my commune to ask for the exact requirements for the application under new law then they told me that I should have minimum A2 level for the language. You can check the details on wiki page for A2 level:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_...

But if your commune hasn't asked you to produce any certificate, then it means you don't actually need one. Hence you don't need to worry about any certificate. They might be testing your language levels directly during the interview.

Good Luck :)

@Ling Chi: Heist-op-den-Berg. Interview is in Mechelen. Not sure the interview is only (or even) about language skills - the nature of the interview wasn't indicated. It is in the Rechtbank van Eerste Aanleg.

I applied for citizenship a few years ago so perhaps the laws have changed, but I Imagine that an A level certificate is only appliccable to British citizens. I live in Brussels and was interviewed by a policeman in Ixelles, and could choose the language, so I chose French. He asked me a few simple questions in French and there was no written test, and that was the extent of the language test. I'm Canadian and Canada and Belgium allow duel citizenship so I have both. If you live in Flanders I imagine that they conduct the interview in Flemish and you don't have a choice of language as you know how fussy the Flemish are about their language.
