National strike in Brussels: travel update

All rail lines are currently running, said Belgian national railway SNCB spokesman Thierry Ney at 7.45 on Tuesday. Nevertheless, some lines in Wallonia are affected by the railway union CGSP’s decision to join the strike, reports Levif online news.

Only one train in two is running on the Mons-Brussels and Tournai-Brussels lines. Between Liège and Brussels, Charleroi and Brussels, 80 to 90% of trains are operating, while between Namur and Brussels, 70% of trains are running.

In Flanders, all trains are running, but there is a possibility of the odd train service being cancelled. SNCB recommends travelers check services before heading to stations.

The TEC bus network in Wallonia is heavily affected by the strike action in Brussels. While 87% of bus services in Brabant Walloon are guaranteed, other provinces report fewer buses running. School bus services are operating normally. The STIB network in Brussels is running normally.

Belgium’s three largest unions - FGTB, CSC and CGSLB - are demonstrating against pension reforms in Brussels city centre on Tuesday morning. Police advise motorists to avoid the area between the North and South train stations.
