MY CAR REGISTRATION
Dear Xpats,
I have just bought a second hand car. I made already the Insurance & Number plate. How to register the car in my name? I am asking this because i still got the "small pink/red registration paper from the previous owner".
I want to register this car in my name and How can i get this pink/red small registration paper in my name?
Any kind advices highly appreciated,
Thanks for all of you in advance,
Hussi
What do you mean when you say that you "made" the insurance and number plates?
If you mean you went to your insurer to arrange your coverage and request your new number plates, then you should receive the new "certificat d'immatriculation" (which BTW is now green, no longer pink) together with your new rear number plate.
If you have already received the new number plate and no other papers were present, then you need to contact DIV. The pink paper you have is most probably either void or about to expire.
I cannot understand how you have got a number plate but not got the car registered in your name.
In Belgium, when you buy a car, it comes WITHOUT a number plate. A new plate is only allocated when a car is registered in the name of a new owner and this is commonly organised by the insurer.
You should discuss this with your insurer and be sure that you understand exactly how these things are done here.
The papers for your car should have been in the packet that contained the number plate. If you threw it away without looking or if they were missing, you will need to contact the DIV. You will probably have to go to the DIV personally as they will need to check your Belgian ID.
