mutuelle recommendations?

Question

I am a Belgian resident, recently divorced, no kids, and plan on being in Belgium much of 2015 to do a training course and then hopefully continue to reside and eventually work here. I'm interested in stopping my expensive international health insurance (from my home country) policy soon and just joining (and paying for myself ) a Belgian mutuelle.

Does anyone have recommendations of which mutuelles are good, and which to avoid? Or has anyone seen online (in French or NL ok) a comparison chart of prices/benefits of different mutuelles?

MJM

When I came I was introduced to EuroMut / Pertena by my company as they are neutral and not affiliated. Now I have been with them for 14 years without problems and very satisfied.
I hope this helps.

The benefits offered by different mutuelles are effectively identical.
One might offer a bigger bag of goodies when you have a baby, another will give more generous help towards courses for kids in school holidays. Mine offers post-paid envelopes to send paperwork to them but, basically, they are all the same.
The received wisdom from similar questions over many years is that you should choose the one which is most convenient either to where you live, study or work.
For what it's worth, I have been with FSMB for over 20 years because my wife had already been with them for 25 years when I moved here. Neither of us ever had a problem with them.

I agree with everything Kasseistamper has said.

However, have you taken advice about you current situation here as you appear to be a non-Belgian citizen potentially without a source of income and, particularly if you have been registered as a resident for less than five years, that may cause you problems.

Apart from that, no mutuelle will cover you for the first six months AFTER you become affiliated and you will have to maintain insurance cover during that period.
