Music education gets €180,000 from Brussels government
The government of the Brussels-Capital Region has given €180,000 to Jeugd en Muziek Brussel (Youth and Music Brussels) to bolster its educational programmes in Dutch-speaking schools. The funding will allow pupils in both primary and secondary school to learn to play and write music in workshops, concerts and camps.
The non-profit organisation will also provide workshops and coaching for teachers who will be able to use this in the classroom. “The creative and young heart of Brussels will beat faster through the power of music,” said Jeugd en Muziek Brussel general manager Patrick Lenaers. “Encouraging creativity tailored to all students of our city – that’s our mission.”
Although Jeugd en Muziek had previously received funding, this had been stopped in 2016, a hiatus that had “major financial implications,” it said.
“Music inspires, stimulates and gets people moving,” said Brussels education minister Guy Verhengel. “I’m already looking forward to the musical talent that will pop up.”
