More and more drug dealers caught on the train
The federal railway police are increasingly called upon to deal with drug dealers on Belgian trains, reports Radio 1. Most often the offenders are carrying marijuana or hashish, especially on trains coming from the Netherlands. But in recent months the railway police have also noted an increase in the amount of hard drugs seized, such as heroin and cocaine.
The fact that many drugs are smuggled into and through Belgium does not come as a surprise to railway police commissioner Nick Noel, who told VRT news, "We are a transit country and an international hub. Brussels plays a very important role."
“The train, and public transportation in general, remain an attractive means for criminal organisations. These are often people who don’t have the money to travel any other way,” Noel acknowledged. “But despite our efforts, the risk of being caught on the train is still quite low."
