More and more Belgians have several jobs

12:24 13/08/2013

More than 190,000 Belgians held multiple jobs in 2012, a 13% increase on 2008, according to statistics by the federal public service for economy and Eurostat published today in L'Echo. In total, 4.2% of Belgian workers were in this situation last year. The official figures mask undoubtedly a much more important phenomenon, L’Echo suggests. The crisis is likely to play a role but is not the only explanation for this trend: a passion for a particular activity and a desire to increase one’s purchasing power are also frequent reasons. In 60% of cases, the second job is performed under the ‘part-time self-employed’ status.
