Mondelēz International to cut 82 jobs in Belgium

11:49 12/04/2016

American food conglomerate Mondelēz International will scrap 82 jobs in Belgium, mostly at its headquarters in Mechelen where 296 people work, the company announced on Monday.

Mondelēz International, one of the world's largest snack companies, is known for brands like Côte d'Or, Lu, Milka, TUC, Grany and Stimorol. It is looking to cut 82 Belgian jobs, mostly at its headquarters in Mechelen in an effort to "simplify, standardise and equalise its way of working at the global level."

The introduction of "common platforms and shared service centres" could lead to the dismissal of 82 employees in Belgium. The management has expressed its desire to minimise the social impact of the job losses and will therefore begin discussions with staff representatives.

While employees union BBTK is not surprised by the announcement, it does have questions about the purpose of the operation.
