Mobility minister requests €58m for train station security

01:03 03/02/2016

Belgium's mobility minister Jacqueline Galant has asked the federal government to provide €58.5 million for the addition of security measures in the train stations. The minister was very specific in her request, saying the funds are needed to install 295 turnstiles and 257 luggage scanners, writes La Libre Belgique.

Galant's request is a follow-up to her call last year for more security measures in stations, after the foiled attack on a Thalys high-speed train between Brussels and Paris in August.

The international train stations are to be given priority for the new security installations, says the minister. They include Brussels-South, -Central, -North and -Schuman, Antwerp Central and -Berchem and Liège-Guillemins (pictured).
