Mobile telephony prices in Belgium have almost halved

11:47 27/09/2013

Mobile telephony contract prices in Belgium came down by almost half in the last year, the result of a price war started by the entrance of Telenet on the Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) market, Het Laatste Nieuws reports, citing telecoms regulator BIPT. The difference reached up to €27 per month or €320 per year in some cases, reports TelecomPaper. The sharp drop was also spurred by regulation which limited contracts to six months. BIPT manages besttariff.be, a price comparison site, where users can select a plan best suited to their estimated consumption. Minister for economic and consumer affairs Johan Vande Lanotte reached an agreement with operators, making it compulsory for them to actively inform customers about new rates.
