Michel Government unpopular with women, survey shows
The Michel Government formed by prime minister Charles Michel is particularly unpopular with women, according to a survey by Het Nieuwsblad. The survey reveals that women have much less confidence in the government than men, and they are increasingly convinced that the government's efforts are not fairly distributed.
Women's organisation Femma reacted unsurprised by the results. "Women – particularly single mothers – tend to be more affected by austerity measures than others," said Femma director Brenda Deny. "If you have to live off only one salary, every measure that leaves you with less money has a much greater impact. The government often seems to overlook this."
In addition, more women than men work part-time, so they have a lower pension. Current government proposals, such as replacing the 38-hour week with a more flexible system, would most negatively affect part-time employees, including many women.
