Metro passengers handed hot-dogs in new safety campaign

22:04 14/12/2016

Brussels public transport operator STIB has handed out free hot-dogs to passengers in a new safety campaign about the dangers of blocking metro doors.

The giveaway at Gare Centrale on Tuesday lunchtime was part of a new series of posters warning commuters "not to end up a sausage" by squeezing on to a train while the doors are closing.

"The doors apply a very strong pressure when they close," a STIB spokesperson said. "Passengers could easily be injured if they get stuck … or dragged along when the train leaves the station."

The public transport operator says door-jammers cause delays which can have a knock-on effect during rush hours, when the gap between trains is as little as two minutes.
