Media group pulls the plug on FM Brussel

12:55 10/06/2015

The board of directors of non-profit organisation Vlaams-Brusselse Media has decided to put an end to city radio station FM Brussel in three weeks' time. The organisation also fired Anne Brumagne, editor-in-chief of  Brussel Deze Week and Agenda, and put current radio editor Jeroen Roppe in charge as the new editor of all titles, which also include brusselnieuws.be and TV Brussel.

The decision came out of the blue to staff of the non-profit but apparently followed months of strategic planning under the guidance of a consultant. "The reform, which will take several months, will be dedicated to digitisation and interactivity on the one hand, and partnerships with various other media and institutions on the other," said CEO Michel Tubbax. "The new media platform will be fully rolled out in the course of 2016."

According to the CEO, the Dutch-language radio landscape is too competitive. While six jobs will disappear from Vlaams-Brusselse Media, the majority of FM Brussel employees will be given jobs elsewhere in teh company, he added.
