Mayeur plans major cycling event in Brussels

12:09 21/03/2017

This summer, the city of Brussels and the non-profit Brussels Major Events will organise a cycling race in the streets of the capital. Brussels mayor Yvan Mayeur hopes the event will become the cycling equivalent of the 20km of Brussels (annual run), and help Brussels' chances of being part of the 2019 Tour de France route, writes La Dernière Heure.

While the details of the route are still uncertain, the riders will have to travel 50km to reach the finish line, located either at the Heysel or Bois de la Cambre. The event will take place on a Sunday in late June or early July, 2017.

The city of Brussels is a candidate to be the starting point for the Tour de France in 2019. Mayeur therefore sees this summer's race an important opportunity to promote cycling in the city.
