Major urban horticulture project launches in Anderlecht

15:14 29/03/2016

A horticultural project supported by the European Regional Development Fund launched this week in the Brussels commune of Anderlecht. The aim of the initiative is to turn a plot of land next to the municipal sports fields into a substantial urban garden, writes Brusselnieuws.

The grounds in Rue Chant d'Oiseaux, not far from the busy Brussels Ring road, were taken over this week by several gardeners as the urban horticulture experiment Boeren Bruxsel Paysans gets off to a start.

The sustainable agriculture project is a step in the right direction, according to Brussels environment minister Céline Fremault, whose Good Food Strategy calls for one-third of the Brussels-Capital Region's fruits and vegetables to be locally produced within 20 years.

The Boeren Bruxsel Paysans project will continue for at least two years.
