Low-cost flights from Brussels to US from next May

22:47 22/08/2018

A Latvian low-cost airline plans to offer direct flights next year from Brussels Airport to New York, Washington and Boston from €149 one way, competing against Brussels Airlines, Delta and United.

Primera Air, which already operates out of several Scandinavian airports as well as London and Paris, has announced the start of Belgium-US routes from next summer.

Daily flights to New York (Newark) are due to launch on 9 May. In early June, Boston (Logan) will be served three times a week and Washington (Dulles) four times a week.

Planes are scheduled to take off from Zaventem between 18.20 and 20.20 - arriving in the US for about 21.00 local time. Return flights leave around 22.00 to land in Brussels the following day, just before midday.

One-way fares to Boston and New York will start at €149 while Washington fares begin at €189, excluding on-board meals and checked luggage.

Primera Air chief commercial officer Anastasija Visnakova said: "We are seeing strong demand for low-cost transatlantic flights from New York, Boston and Washington, so we are completing our strategy and increasing the number of destinations."

The airline has reportedly placed an order for 10 new Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft, with a capacity for 173 standard-class and 16 premium-class passengers.
