Lovelorn Belgian threatens suicide in Thailand

A Belgian living in Pattaya, Thailand, threated to kill himself in front of his ex-girlfriend’s home, according to news website Pattaya One. Police were called to the apartment block in Soi Yai just after 15.20 on Tuesday by neighbours who reported seeing the man lying on the ground in front of the apartment. The woman was out at the time and returned to find the 60-year-old man lying on the ground under an ironing board with a towel draped over it. He was pressing a large knife against his stomach and said he would kill himself if the woman did not take him back. After 20 minutes of negotiation, she persuaded him to throw away the knife. He was taken to a police station and given a chance to discuss the afternoon’s events in a controlled environment with his former partner present, and police took no further action.
