Lottery hoax warning

10:12 26/06/2013

The National Lottery has warned of a hoax email currently in circulation which announces that the recipient has won €35,000 on the e-lottery and invites the ‘winner’ to click on a link and provide bank details. “To be perfectly clear, the National Lottery never does such a thing,” said spokesman Laurent Fassin, and revealed that the alarm had been sounded when two of the organisation’s own staff received the email last week. The email is typical of a phishing attempt, where bank details are stolen and accounts plundered. The economy ministry has issued guidelines for those in doubt, the most important piece of advice being to ask yourself if it really makes sense that a stranger is offering you piles of money.
