Looking for work

Question

I have been out of work for over a year. I had a couple of interviews, but no offers. I have a Master's degree and a lot of experience but things are starting to really get me down. I apply for vacancies, I apply on spec - nothing, no leads.
Any advice? Any support groups? I know the recession is far from over and I don't know how I am going to wait this out indefinitely. Please help.

What agencies have you tried? you have to really get out there and push.

A great place to start are the banks - Bank of New York, Euroclear, etc. Certain agencies (Hayes on Av. Louise to name one) recruit for the banks.

They are pretty boring office jobs, but with great benefits and good pay. The agency will give you tips on how to get one of these jobs, but in the end its up to you. Qualifications don't seem to be as important as having a very positive sharp pro-active approach to the matter and the job.

If you haven't explored this route already and want more info please put up your email and I'll get on to you. If you've already tried the banks, then try the pharmaceuticals and other large English speaking companies. As I said, agencies are a great gateway to these sweet jobs.
