Locals invited to suggest new street names for Tour &Taxis quarter

11:13 12/06/2018

The City of Brussels is inviting locals to suggest street names for the revamped Tour & Taxis neighbourhood in the capital.

Situated between the North train station and the Belgica metro station, the Tour & Taxis site will undergo major works in the next few years with the aim of building a new and greener neighbourhood that will also include room for businesses, companies and accommodation.

The contest is being organised by two Brussels aldermen for the pro-business MR party – Clémentine Barzin and Geoffroy Coomans de Brachène – and Extensa, the real estate developer in charge of the Tour & Taxis project.

Barzin told Bruzz that she hoped that locals would submit innovative ideas for street names. “I would consider it a really great thing if a couple of streets were named after remarkable women because of this contest.”

Twenty-eight streets, squares or lanes are in need of a new name. The names must be related either to the history of the Tour & Taxis quarter, an important local figure or the larger Brussels area. Anyone can submit an idea for a street name by visiting and by explaining in no more than 140 characters why they chose that particular name.

Submissions can be sent in for the next two weeks, after which a jury will select the winners. The winning street names will be announced July 2.
