Locals invited to suggest new street names for Tour &Taxis quarter

11:13 12/06/2018

The City of Brussels is inviting locals to suggest street names for the revamped Tour & Taxis neighbourhood in the capital.

Situated between the North train station and the Belgica metro station, the Tour & Taxis site will undergo major works in the next few years with the aim of building a new and greener neighbourhood that will also include room for businesses, companies and accommodation.

The contest is being organised by two Brussels aldermen for the pro-business MR party – Clémentine Barzin and Geoffroy Coomans de Brachène – and Extensa, the real estate developer in charge of the Tour & Taxis project.

Barzin told Bruzz that she hoped that locals would submit innovative ideas for street names. “I would consider it a really great thing if a couple of streets were named after remarkable women because of this contest.”

Twenty-eight streets, squares or lanes are in need of a new name. The names must be related either to the history of the Tour & Taxis quarter, an important local figure or the larger Brussels area. Anyone can submit an idea for a street name by visiting www.tour-taxis.com and by explaining in no more than 140 characters why they chose that particular name.

Submissions can be sent in for the next two weeks, after which a jury will select the winners. The winning street names will be announced July 2.
