Law student looking for housing
Dear all,
I am an Erasmus exchange student from Norway, who will be studying law at VUB this Fall semester. Sadly I have yet to be successful in my search for a room to rent, so I thought publishing an ad in a newspaper might help. I would like to know of any newspapers that are widely read in Brussels. Have you got any neat tips? :)
Thank you in advance for your help!
Kind regards,
Camilla Egeberg
I have no experience on newspaper ads, but you could try this http://www.appartager.be
Finding room to rent in Brussels is relatively easy, but the price and quality vary a lot and you should absolutely not agree in anything without seeing the place first and without seeing more than one place. Due to the holiday season it will be difficult to get an answers before closer the end of August. Also there will be a lot of new comers in the autumn and places go really fast from end of August. Your best bet is probably to come to Brussels in the last week of August and then try to make as many seeings as possible in here.
Try this http://brik.be/international-students/finding-room ;
also a room for a student is called a "kot " in Flemish .
also in the Facebook page "BXL A' LOUER" you can find lots of offers on rooms.
this is the worst time of the year to look for accomodation in Brussels as all the stagiares are coming
I agree with R that facebook group 'BXL A LOUER' is probably a good place to start looking. There are usually many postings. Good luck!
Immoweb.be has by far the largest number of properties to let. Search for apartments/kots/brussels capital or click on the "student rooms" link on the homepage.

and most important of all: dont pay anything in advance, there are many scammers that take advantage of people trying to secure rooms or flat from abroad. you send the deposit and then money is lost and no keys are given.
many people fell for it.
so try to find temporary accomodation in brussels for some days (hotel, hostel, b&b according to your budget) and pay only when a contract is signed and keys are given or you are allowed to sublet an empty room.
don't give the landlord the deposit personally, insist in it going in a blocked account
Hi Camilla, have you looked on the xpats site in the sections SMALL ADS - "Homeshares" and "For Rent Furnished" ?
There are several student flats in both these sections.
Welcome to Bruxelles & good luck with your studies.
If you haven't found anywhere, let me know... we may be able to provide a temporary solution.
