Lasne

Question

We are going to move out of Brussels and are weighing up the pros and cons of Waterloo and the countryside in the Lasne area. Obviously Waterloo has pretty much all the facilities one really needs and I assume a reasonable and active expat community? I was wondering what the countryside was like though? Do many expats live there and is there anything happening for the expat community? What do people do socially? We do not have kids so the school network wouldn't be of much use to us. We really like the countryside a lot but feel slightly apprehensive that we may feel a little isolated and may struggle to meet people. Would really appreciate any insight and feedback. TIA

Excluding Brussels, Lasne has one of the highest percentages of non-Belgians in the country. The maison communal even has an English speaking separate office for foreigners, and they are extremely welcoming. Depends on what you're looking for in a social life. If it's bars and parties, then head to Waterloo. My experience is that the people are very friendly, and we have a whole circle of friends (although mainly through the local school and our children).
