Kinepolis sued for breach of contract and unfair competition

11:40 25/03/2013

After Mini-Europe and Océade, the Kinepolis cinema complex could be the next to disappear from the Heysel site in Brussels, reports Flanders News. Kinepolis is said to have violated a policy agreement with the Brussels authorities by organising too many seminars, trade congresses and product launches, when it is meant to stick to its core business of showing films. The authorities have launched an action through the Brussels Expo non-profit organisation, chaired by Brussels mayor Freddy Thielemans. The Expo receives a percentage of every cinema ticket sold by Kinepolis Brussels but does not get anything in the case of other events. It is demanding that the present agreement with Kinepolis, which runs until 2025, be suspended. Earlier, it was decided that Mini-Europe and Océade would have to go to make room for the Neo development, which includes a shopping complex, congress centre and possibly a multi-functional stadium.
