Junior card for kids
According to the instructions below, living in Kraainem (which is not in Brussels capital region but still a facility commune, can my daughter travel free on De Lijn and TEC? Thanks for the answers in advance.
The J-ticket
Children aged 6-11 can travel for free at any time on the entire STIB* network and the network of De Lijn**.
The J-season ticket itself is free. You only pay a refundable deposit of 5 euro for the MOBIB-pass.
How to obtain?
Order the ticket through our BOOTIK online. It will be send to your address within 10 working days.
Come to one of our BOOTIK with your identity card and that of your child, a photograph. The MOBIB-pass will be made on the spot.
* except between NATO-Brussels Airport of lines 12 and 21
** the J-ticket is only valid on the network of De Lijn for every child between the ages of 6 and 11 of any EU member state and who is domiciled in the Brussels Region. To obtain this ticket you need to justify your place of residence with a certificate of residence which can be obtained from your local council.
Those instructions are for TEC and de Lijn in MTB travel area only and you need to purchase a MOBIB card. You do not need to live in Brussels region to buy a MOBIB card but you need to have legal residence in Belgium to do so.
Rules about 6 to 11 year olds on De Lijn and TEC differ when outside MTB travel area.
" J-season ticket" does not apply to your kids, as they live outside Brussels.
I know heaps of kids who live outside Brussels with J season tickets. They are issued to any legal resident of Belgium aged 6 to 11 years, you can however only use them in the MTB travel area, so on all STIB services, some De Lijn and TEC services only inside MTB. In fact it might even be only inside STIB area (not the black stops on the map).
