Jazz duo Charles Loos & Eric Legnini to perform concert on 31 January
Multi-talented pianists and composers Charles Loos & Eric Legnini perform their new CD Growlin’ Faces in a special concert at Marni Theatre on 31 January.
Released by independent Belgian record label Igloo Records, the album’s nine tracks show off the pair’s eclectic range, from acoustic and electric piano to Latin, funk, Brazilian and boogie-bluesy flavours, as well as classic jazz.
While each musician enjoys wildly successful solo careers, when they play together, they win accolades for the fluidity and fusional quality of their music. Each of the projects for this new CD is a unique oeuvre, including a tribute to Maurane and a retro piece to the almost frenzied album opener, Boda Boda.
Above all, the pair share an infectious pleasure in performing on stage. This musical union is embodied in the second track Growlin’ Face, a composition by Loos dating from 1983, which also provides the album’s title, albeit with an extra ’s’.
The new album is a result of a live experience when the two musicians reunited on the stage of 140 theatre in Schaerbeek in 2020 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Igloo Records. Its electro-acoustic groove was an added bonus when it was entirely reworked in the studio, while the looping was completed during the pandemic.
These improvised and energetic sounds have created an album that is bright and original, and this live concert presentation promises to be a singular and joyful experience.
