Is it really that difficult?

Question

Hi there,

My spouse is Canadian and French (French passport so no work permit problems for us). He will be looking for work in Belgium in the banking sector when we move back. I am a bit concerned though. I keep hearing that it is quite hard to find a job in Belgium. Is this true? My spouse has a BTS (a technical diploma from France) in Insurance and Banking. He worked at Societe Generale and BNP Paribas in France as a teller and financial counselor for 5 years. Here in Canada he has 5 years experience working as an assistant financial counselor. He speaks fluent French and English. He does not speak Dutch. He is willing to learn of course, but as we all know, that takes time. We are wondering if it is suicide to quit a good situation here if finding a decent job is really that difficult over there. I hear not speaking Dutch can be a major road block. We are thinking of either Brussels or Liege. Liege is better from what I understand if you don't speak Dutch but it seems harder to find work.

Any advice or opinions (constructive of course) would be appreciated!

Best!

I

First question, why are you planning to move to Belgium without a job if you have a job in Canada? Yes much of the world is in recession, we've had banking crises here in Belgium too.
.
Also why Brussels or Liege? Are there specific reasons like family? Why not France if French?
