Is it ok to give rice for a 8 month old baby

Hi, I would like to know whether it's safe to give rice for a 8 month old baby? Of course it will be smashed and mixed with a vegitable (no salt added). I will ask this question from my pediatre ..... in the meantime, I would like to know your opinion. If it's safe, then what type of rice, please?

Many thanks!!!

It´s perfectly fine to give rice to your 8 month baby. If mashed the grain type won´t make a lot of difference, just make sure it is well cooked.

Just how many safety nets have you fallen through to think that random, unqualified advice through an internet forum is better than the medical and social services infrastructure that exists to make sure you never have to ask this sort of question?

When is you next Kind & Gezin / ONE appointment?

Hi, I assume you are weaning the baby so hope i can help a little, as a Mum of 3 and gran of 3 i have a wee bit of experience. A god weaning dish if you wan tto use rice, which is very gentle on babies stomachs is to cook some long grain rice until quite soft with some diced carrots, drain but keep the cooking liquid put the rice/carrot mix in a blender add enough of the cooking liquid to make it smooth, if you want to keep this it must be cooled and frozen in small portions very quickly. If you are like a lot of young Mums here without your family don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you need any advice or support. Good luck and ignore the rude comments.

by the way J it is not obligatory to attend ONE appointments if you have a private pediatrician.

Hi yes it's safe as long as it's freshly cooked rice is a bad thing to keep because it can grow some nasty bugs. Baby rice used to a staple first weaning meal. I imagine if they are eight months and already weaning well they can also cope with small lumps so it should be easy to give them.
