Irish telecoms firm expands in Belgium
Irish telecoms firm Digiweb has bought the retail assets of Belgian internet service provider Mondial Telecom, writes the Irish Times’ Ciara O'Brien. The move means Digiweb, based in Dundalk, acquires around 25,000 residential and small to medium sized business customers in the region, providing broadband, fixed line and mobile phone services. The Irish-based firm said its Belgian business was managed from Ireland, and it had already begun recruitment for additional positions at its operational centre to deal with the expansion. The value of the all-cash transaction was not disclosed. Digiweb’s managing director of consumer operations and services Declan Campbell said the acquisition was a great opportunity for the company, growing its operations in Belgium into new areas such as mobile broadband and telephony, and supported the company’s strategy to grow revenues both in and outside of Ireland. “Our recent merger with Viatel has granted Digiweb increased access to the European market and we’ll continue to lookout for domestic and international growth opportunities,” he said.
