IQ testing for children
Does anyone have experience with getting an IQ test for kids here? Our school requested one to see if our son can move up a grade, but when I checked with Community Help Service the cost is 700 euros plus several hours of therapists' fees for administration. This seems steep to me and I am curious if anyone knows of alternatives. This was for testing in English; perhaps doing it in French would be more affordable. Many thanks in advance.
Many years ago my son had to sit an IQ test to see if he could go into lst primary as he was legally too young. The test was carried out by the PMS, organised by the school and did not cost me anything. They were extremely enthusiastic and said that there was no question and that he should definitely go into primary. A few years later they gave us advice about a secondary school - our first choice was full and they told us that the second one we had chosen was not suitable for my son as he would be bored. Here is some info about PMS but do ask your school (there is an equivalent in the Flemish area but I do not know what it is called): http://www.enseignement.be/index.php?page=24633
Hope it helps.
Yes it will definitely be in French or Dutch. We were in the same situation - French at school, English at home and my son had no problems at all with the test. Also the PMS were extremely helpful and pleasant - at least the branch that dealt with my son's school.
Good Luck
The CHS test is an educational psychological evaluation and is more designed to highlight a child's weakness if they are struggling not the other way around as far as I know it's not designed to test what you're after
