Insurance

Question

Hello all,
Im new here and still trying to find my way of Belgian heathcare systems.
Questions
1. I don't have a job yet, can I register to Mutuelle? Or do I have to find a job first before I can register?
2. 2nd option that I can think is taking private insurance (Zurich, ING, etc). Can anyone recommend/have any experience with private insurance in Belgium? Is it difficult to get reimbursements? Does anyone know any local private insurance? Any experiences? Are they cheaper?

Thanks alot

Mimi

If you reside legally, under any condition, I believe you can get mutual insurance, but you'll need your residence card. It becomes effective six months after registration. I expect private insurance is more expensive. Reimbursement is easy and is usually within one week of sending in the receipts. Reimbursement ranges from 0% to 100% and is based on a fixed amount. You are reimbursed x euros for visiting a GP and y for a specialist, regardless of how much you actually pay.
