Infirmiers de Rue sells 5,800 comic strips to raise funds
The "street nurses" association Infirmiers de la Rue is auctioning off its comic strip collection to raise funds for its work helping the homeless.
The charity inherited a total of 5,800 works that it will be offering for sale, including original plates and first editions.
A number of authors have also joined the sale, donating plates and drawings.
“There are some very generous people who sometimes offer disproportionate sums to buy a drawing,” said cartoonist Philippe Geluck, who is regularly asked to take part in charity sales.
“I mustn’t think that my drawings are worth €35,000 or €45,000. They're not worth that, but the people who donate do so for the cause.”
Proceeds from the sale will go towards the running of the non-profit association and its 60 or so employees, whose mission is to help the most vulnerable people living on the streets.
The auction will take place online at Drouot.com from 4 to 13 November. The closing evening of the sale on 13 November will be held in person at Brussels city hall, beginning at 18.00.
