Indians in Belgium warned of potential phone scam

22:21 12/02/2017

The Indian embassy in Brussels has warned of a potential fraudster making phone calls to Indian nationals posing as an embassy worker and asking for money.

Some Indians living in Brussels have received calls from a person claiming to be from a government organisation. The caller has tried to get people to transfer money into an overseas account after stating that there is some problem with their immigration papers.

The embassy has warned that this caller is not from the embassy or any other governmental organisation.

"Indians living in Belgium are advised to be wary of such calls/emails and report the matter immediately to the nearest police station and the Embassy of India," the embassy wrote on its site.
