Implications of declaration of tax residence country?

When recently signing documents for the bank for when my son turns 18 he was asked to sign a document declaring his official tax country as Belgium.

He can ask for the piece of paper to not be submitted (as he's not yet 18) but does anyone know what the implications are long term either way?? He's not (yet!) actually Belgian, but Biritish/Greek.

Ones' nationality is of no concern, if you reside here you pay tax here. Apart from certain agreements for those working for the Commission and some companies, mostly with regard I believe to temporary postings.

I am British and pay taxes here and in the UK for income generated there.
As for the future and Brexit, anyones' guess and do not hold your breath.

Thank you, but he's currently a student in another EU country, and may well work in various EU countries during the summer or even whilst studying.

It doesn't matter that he's at university in another country. He is presumably registered here (i.e. has a residence/ID card), his "home" is presumably still here in Belgium, and you presumably claim allocations familiales for him as your dependent. Therefore his residence for tax purposes is in Belgium. Whether he has to pay any taxes is a different matter.

Dear @Mark,
Is the national/tax number from UK not decleared in Belgium and vice-versa? Or it does not matter and taxes can/should be filed in local countries?

My situtation is opposite. I am a Belgian in UK. Based on the responses to the original question, I should file taxes in Belgium and UK separately? Is the income from one country not visible to another country or it does not matter?

Normally some numbers (interest earned) are reported to where he is tax resident. No long term implications except the country receiving the declaration would know he has the account.

If he pas tax in different countries there are rules to decide which is the "main one"
